And although don’t ask ourselves, what to do our dog, agility or display competitive level? We can use it as a basic activity who has two main aspects: to train and educate as well as physical exercise for the dog. As I mentioned, Agility born as an educational game on a dog show at London in late ’70s, but today its popularity spread and is not hard to see at a park dogs leaping, running and enjoying besides their masters, navigating and overcoming obstacles. It is a basic game, inspired by the racing, but adapted to the dog and with which we can use to train them while fun and exercise together. Although competitive or exhibition we see that there are a type of obstacles designed for agility, with a little imagination and good cheer we can set up our own obstacle course in the park, a garden or even if our dog is small and we have enough space we can do at home. Of course, like any educational game it requires patience and there will be dogs showing more interest than others, but with perseverance we can get our dog to get agility, exercise, learn to follow our instructions and, of course, to share with us a very rewarding game.

Can you practice every dog agility? As noted, it is raising an obstacle course that the dog will have to overcome along the way and teach you to indicate to what we use visual cues, palms so that we lead and the dog will learn the route. As physical activity is recommended for all dogs who need daily exercise, but obviously there is no limitation for any breed or size. Simply they must be healthy and without physical problems that allow you to run or jump. Ideally, agility begins to teach, as a game, when the dog has already passed his time as the puppy. Before surely, the game will become an excuse for his antics and they don’t yet mature and be ready to understand in detail the instructions to do it. Therefore, the only requirement (in addition to the comments about being healthy) is that our dog has the capacity to obey, so is ideal when, after the first year started with more advanced education: where should you go, do not throw the belt.

What do I need to play agility with my dog? Only an appropriate space, patience and use what you have at hand to prepare our own obstacles. Although hurdles to jump, ramps, small tunnels, etc. are used in agility, we with a little imagination can realize our own obstacles: wheels, banks, ramps. Always keep in mind the size of the dog and skill. Let’s be realistic, prudent and very patient at first, with simple obstacles that we overcome indicating where you, dodge or jump. Over time, training and repetition, our dog will learn to deal more complicated routes. Remember two important things that will be useful: we can teach the first strap to learn to follow the right way and always, always reward you get after. This, as we have noted on occasion, can be a simple touch or your favorite bauble. Reinforcing always get our dog positively acquire agility, dexterity and also spend a good time exercising and playing with him.
