Description:

The Chinese Crested is a very popular breed of dog. He is cute, cheerful and has an affectionate nature. There are two varieties of this breed, with and without fur. And although these two subspecies differ slightly in external features, they have exactly the same character. While the Chinese Crested feels better in warmer climates, the coated variety can exist peacefully in colder climates. This breed was officially recognized by the American Kannel Club in 1991.

Characteristics:

The Chinese Crested has excellent manners and is always in a good mood. Although dogs of this breed are very wary of strangers, they rarely bark and do not bite. These dogs are wonderful pets, always willing to raise your spirits. This breed is generally obedient and eager to please its owner. Comparable Breed: Chihuahua.

Character:

The Chinese Crested is a loyal family member, in constant need of human attention. This dog gets on well with children and all the other animals that are in the house. This breed is a very smart dog, but since this dog is generally characterized by timidity and indecision, he requires early socialization and obedience training.

Coat / Care:

There are two completely different varieties of Chinese Crested: The Powder Puff, which is covered with long hair, and the Hairless Chinese Crested has long strands only on the head and legs. While the Powder Puff requires thorough and careful care, the Hairless requires a minimum care. Anyhow, this is a very clean dog, which is completely absent characteristic odor.

Since the Hairless Chinese Crested has a very delicate skin, he must be carefully guarded, not only from the cold but also from direct sunlight. It is recommended to regularly use sunscreen to protect the dog from sunburn. The coated Chinese Crested needs daily combing and brushing, in order the hair from tangling and to make it look neat and healthy. Shedding is completely absent.

Health Problems:

The Chinese Crested is generally healthy dog, but like all breeds, they’re prone to Dental Issues, Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA), Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease, Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca. The Chinese Crested has a life expectancy of 13 to 18 years.

Weight / Height

The male Chinese Crested dog breed’s height is around 11 – 13 inches and weighs around 10 and 12 pounds. Female dogs can reach a size from 11 – 13 inches and weighs between 8 and 12 pounds.

Training:

Since this is an extremely intelligent and agile breed of dog, they are very easy to train and successful in all kinds of competitions. Make sure to use rewards and games if you want to teach them to comply with your requests.

Activity:

The Chinese Crested can thrive in the city apartment, even if he does not exercise regularly. It is enough to play regularly with your pet at home. When you do take him out in the open air, do not forget to carefully conceal it from the sun and protected from cold weather.
