Description:

Playful and affectionate, the Dandie Dinmont Terrier is an excellent companion. This is a very intelligent breed, known for its capacity to learn extremely quickly and with ease. The Dandie Dinmont Terrier needs proper socialization in order to learn how to interact with small children and other pets. This dog breed was officially recognized by the American Kannel Club in 1886.

Characteristics:

The Dandie Dinmont Terrier breed has a very long, curvy body with short legs and heavy bones. The Dandie’s eyes are large and very expressive. Like most terriers, the Dandie Dinmont Terrier is entirely independent and determined, though much calmer than other subspecies. Comparable Breed: Skye Terrier and Scottish Terrier.

This rare breed is very intelligent and willing to take part in any given activity. Dandie Dinmont Terriers are particularly distrustful of strangers, so before placing your pet in an unfamiliar environment, it is necessary to conduct proper education. Coat / Care:

The Dandie Dinmont Terrier has quite a long, crunchy coat which contains both soft and rough hairs. The coat is either mustard or pepper in color. In order to look representative, the Dandie Dinmont Terrier will require a great amount of effort. This will prevent the hair from tangling. Hard, crisp hair should have a wiry structure, and those strands on the head should be soft and silky. Shedding is minimal. Every once in a while, professional grooming is a must. When necessary, you should bathe your dog.

Health Problems:

The Dandie Dinmont Terrier is generally healthy dog breed, but like all breeds, they’re prone to Glaucoma, Cheyletiella Yasguri mites, Epilepsy and Spinal problems. The Dandie Dinmont Terrier has a life expectancy of 12 to 15 years.

Weight / Height

The male Dandie Dinmont Terrier dog breed’s height is around 8 – 12 inches and weighs around 18 and 24 pounds. Female dogs can reach a size from 8 – 12 inches and weighs between 18 and 24 pounds.

Training:

Education methods should be based on gentleness and respect, but at the same time, Dandie Dinmont Terriers need a firm hand, as they occasionally exhibit great stubbornness. Dogs of this breed are quite intelligent so the learning process is easy enough, though obedience course can be a challenge.

Activity:

The Dandie Dinmont Terrier is well suited for life in a city apartment. These small and sturdy dogs are not too demanding in terms of daily exercising. However, make sure to always keep them on a leash in unfenced areas, as they can be a bit unpredictable.
