Description:

Bred in the 1860s in Germany, the Doberman Pinscher was used as a private security guard and a watchdog, pastoral and hunting dog. He was created by German tax collector- Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann. This is a noble and proud dog that showed amazing heroism during the First and Second World War. Therefore, he is the official symbol of the United States Marine Corps.

Characteristics:

Doberman Pinschers are dogs of medium-large size, with a muscular and compact body. This breed is brave, elegant and clever by nature. This is one of the most respected and popular breeds of dogs; they became widely known thanks to their deep devotion to their owner and their protective natural qualities.

Character:

Universal breed, fearless and assertive, the Doberman Pinscher is in need of constant contact with the man. He is extremely loyal and willing to defend his family and his home until the last breath. He gets along well with older children who know how to behave but is not very keen on building a relationship with other pets. Dobermans are extremely hostile to strangers which make them excellent guard dogs. As he needs constant attention, it is not recommended to leave your pet alone for a long period of time. Doberman is not intended for inexperienced dog breeders, people who are leading inactive lifestyle or are extremely busy.

Coat / Care:

Doberman Pinschers have thick, smooth, short and stiff hair, close fitting to the body. The color may be red, blue, black and fawn.  The Doberman Pinscher’s natural tail is fairly long, but individual dogs often have a short tail as a result of docking, a procedure in which the majority of the tail is surgically removed shortly after birth. Shedding is average. Doberman Pinschers require minimal maintenance. It is enough to clean the dog from time to time or wipe his body with a damp cloth. To prevent tooth loss, it is important to observe good oral hygiene. Also, claws require periodic pruning. Bathing or cleaning with a dry shampoo is allowed only in case of urgent need.

Health Problems:

The most typical diseases are Von Willebrand disease, prostatic disease, dysplasia of the hip joint, and congenital heart disease. The Doberman Pinschers should be kept only in warm climates. The Doberman Pinscher has a life expectancy of 10 to 14 years.

Training:

Doberman Pinschers are easy to train, but they require a dominant owner who leads an active life. To avoid traits such as shyness, timidity or aggression, it is essential to carry out an early and adequate socialization. Do not use harsh or heavy-handed methods. The education should be based on firmness, fairness, consistency and respect. Doberman Pinschers are especially good in tracking, search and rescue, police work, canistherapy and protection dog.

Activity:

As a very energetic breed, Doberman Pinscher needs active exercises and mental stimulation on the everyday basis. He takes part in all domestic activities with great pleasure, and he is a wonderful companion for long walks. Doberman can be suitable for a city apartment, provided that you keep him busy, however, the ideal habitat for this breed is a small fenced yard.
