Dogs that look like Huskies

Dogs That Look Like Huskies – Northern dogs, including the Alaskan Malamute and the dog group known as Alaskan Huskies, resemble Siberian Huskies because they all adapted to withstand freezing temperatures and chase available prey in their environment. Although discerning dog people can tell the various purebred northern dogs apart, they share many breed traits, including upright pointed ears, a double coat, broad chest, large size and curled tail.
Huskies are energetic and athletic. They usually have a thick double coat that can be gray, black, copper red, or white. Their eyes are typically pale blue, although they may also be brown, green, blue, yellow, or heterochromatic. Huskies are more prone to some degree of uveitis than most other breeds.

Alaskan Malamute

Alaskan Malamute is a big and powerful dog, weighing up to 45 Kg. The breed is very friendly. Alaskan malamutes usually live about 11 years. They are well known for their ability to resist training, so make sure to take it to obedience classes and socialize it from a young age. Alaskan Malamutes have a double coat, often part white and part sable or gray. Their eyes are brown and their tails are fluffy and usually carried up. Its friendliness and lack of barking make it a popular choice for pet owners.

The Malamute is a very intelligent and loyal dog, but because it was bred to survive in harsh conditions, it is also incredibly resourceful and independent. They are strong, so they do well in skijoring, and weight-pulling. The Malamute may not be a great fit for families that have other pets, particularly small ones since the breed does have a fairly developed prey drive.

Canadian Eskimo Dog

The Canadian Eskimo Dog is another tribal sled dog that has probably been bred with wolves. Also known as Qimmiq, Canadian Husky, and Canadian Inuit Dogs, this breed is a working dog that used to pull sleds and hunt. Dogs weigh between 30 and 40 kilos (roughly between 65 and 90 pounds) and have a thick coat like that of the Siberian Husky. They live 12 years. These dogs are smart, energetic, strong, tough, and very loyal. They also do best in cold weather and are prone to heat stroke.

They have the powerful, athletic build of the Alaskan Malamute and are very similar to wolves. The Canadian Eskimo Dog’s temperament reflects its original work and environment. It is affectionate and gentle, and develops a deep bond with its owner and is intensely loyal. When used as sled dogs, they were often required to forage and hunt for their own food. Consequently, many Canadian Eskimo Dogs have stronger prey drive than some other breeds.

They are great family dogs and are very good with children. The breed is characterized by an alert and happy expression which has earned the nicknames “Sammie smile” and “smiley dog.”

Utonagan

Utonagans were bred in England with the aim of producing a wolf-like dog. They are a mix of three dogs the Alaskan Malamute, German Shepherd, and Siberian Husky. The name is Native American, a Chinook phrase that means “Spirit of the Wolf.” These dogs are said to live for up to 15 years and have few health problems. Utonagans are large, strong and muscular but are not heavy in build. While they are not wolves they are bred to look like them with a diversity of colors and an overall balance of power, speed and agility.
