PEKEPOO DOG BREED

Description:

The Pekepoo (also known as Peekapoo) is a hybrid dog, which first appeared in the United States of America. The Pekepoo was created by crossing the Poodle (most often, the toy or miniature sized) and the Pekingese. This is one of the most popular ‘designer’ dogs. The Pekepoo is not recognized by the AKC, as it is considered to be a hybrid breed (designer breed).

Height: up to 11 inches  Weight: 4-20 pounds  Lifespan: 10-15 years

Characteristics:

Pekepoos are well built, strong and vital dogs. The Pekepoo makes a wonderful companion dog, but this also means that he will want to always be with you. Do not leave your dog alone for extended periods of time. This small dog breed is vivid and lovable. This can lead to separation anxiety, as well as excessive barking and chewing.

Character:

The Pekepoo is devoted, affectionate and cheerful. He is very delicate and family oriented. These dogs need constant human love attention. Hence, if left neglected, Pekepoos will become unmanageable. The Peekapoo gets along well with teenagers, dogs and other pets, provided that they grew up in the same house. This breed is very wary of strangers, and it will bark to alert the family of possible danger

Coat / Care:

Pekepoos have a double coat. The top layer can be flat (like the Pekingese) or curly (like the Poodle). The undercoat is short, dense and thick. Depending on the type of the coat, these dogs require either day-to-day combing or professional trimming. Bathing is allowed only in case of urgent need, using a mild shampoo. Oral hygiene is highly important because this breed is prone to early teeth loss.

Health Problems:

Pekepoo dogs can suffer from several diseases: eye diseases, skin diseases, diabetes, anemia, ear infections and heart disease. The Pekepoo has a life expectancy of 10 to 15 years.

Weight / Height

The male Pekepoo dog breed’s height is around 8 – 11 inches and weighs around 4 and 20 pounds. Female Pekepoo dogs can reach a size from 8 – 11 inches and weighs between 4 and 20 pounds.

Training:

The Pekepoo requires early socialization and obedience training. This dog is not very obedient in terms of cleanliness, so it is best if you keep your pet in a special cage, until it gets accustomed to the rules. Pekepoos will not respond to harsh training methods. Hence, the coach must be patient and fair.

Activity:

Pekepoo dogs are perfect for living indoors. Since he’s very active, the Pekepoo needs plenty of toys to keep him busy. This crossbreed loves long walks on a sturdy leash and due to their inquisitive nature, Pekepoos are always happy to explore the environment in a fenced yard.
