POMCHI DOG BREED

Description:

The Pomchi (also known as the Chi-Pom) is a hybrid dog breed, popularly called a ’designer dog’. This breed was created by crossing the Pomeranian and the Chihuahua. In 1998, Pomchi Standard was adopted by the American Pomchi Club. The Pomchi is not recognized by the American Kennel Club, as it is considered to be a hybrid breed (designer breed).

Height: 6-9 inches  Weight: 2-10 pounds  Lifespan: 12-18 years

Characteristics:

The Pomchi is a good-natured and affectionate dog, that is prepared to do anything because of the own family by virtue of their fearlessness, occasionally behaves stubbornly refusing to comply even the master and the family. These excellent watchdogs will wake up the entire family barking, in spite of the smallest provocation.

Character:

The Pomchi is an affectionate, cheerful and faithful dog. This breed of dog gets along well with teenagers, but it is not recommended for families that already have pets. Pomchis are extremely suspicious of strangers, and therefore can be great watchdogs. These dogs are intelligent and bold, but they tend to be aggressive loud barkers. As a rule, this dog gets tied to a single family member.

Coat / Care:

The Pomchi has either single or double coat, which can be short or long, glossy, soft, smooth or silky. Pomchis come in a variety of colors, including white, black, gray, cream, blue or a combination of colors. Bathe your dog only in case of necessity. It is important to thoroughly clean the dog’s teeth, to avoid early teeth loss.

Health Problems:

The Pomchi is generally healthy dog breed, but like all breeds, they can suffer from sprained knee cup, tracheal collapse, hypoglycemia and several eye diseases. The Pomchi has a life expectancy of 12 to 18 years.

Weight / Height

The male Pomchi dog breed’s height is around 7 – 9 inches and weighs around 2 and 10 pounds. Female Pomchi dogs can reach a size from 6 – 9 inches and weighs between 2 and 10 pounds.

Training:

Pomchis need early obedience training and socialization. Since this breed is very difficult to train not to urinate on the street, you should keep the Pomchi in a special cage until he learns this skill. The coach must be strict, but fair.

Activity:

The Pomchi is well suited for keeping in an apartment. However, he is very active and needs a variety of safe toys to keep him occupied. The collar is not suitable for this breed because it has a very fragile windpipe. Hence, the best environment for Pomchis is a well-fenced yard, where they can run freely.
