TOSA DOG BREED

Description:

The Tosa (also known as Japanese Mastiff and Tosa-Inu) is originally from Japan, where it is considered a national treasure. This is a rare breed, even in its homeland. Tosas will quickly learn to obey and respect the rules. These dogs are very sweet and affectionate, but cold and reserved with outsiders. However, Tosas easily build relationships with new people, provided that they do not pose a threat. This breed gets along fine with older children, but they should not be left alone without supervision. Furthermore, the Tosa is not recommended for families with very small children.

Height: 24.5-32 inches  Weight: 80-200 lbs.  Lifespan: 10-12 years

Characteristics:

Brave and clever, the Tosa captivates people with his good-natured appearance. However, this massive breed is not for everyone. Hence, because of their huge size and independent mind, Japanese Mastiffs must be carefully and properly trained. Comparable Breeds: The Mastiff and Great Dane.

Character:

Tosa is easily trained and socialized quickly, but he needed constant monitoring in order to avoid unpleasant situations. Therefore, it is highly important that dog breeders are sufficiently experienced. This breed is a brave, protective and very loyal breed, which can perfectly perform watchdog functions.

Coat / Care:

The coat is short, dense and rough. Tosas usually come in red, yellow, apricot, brindle or fawn. The nose is black. White markings on the chest and feet are allowed. Since this breed is a low shedder, maintenance is rather easy. It is enough to occasionally brush your dog to minimize the hair loss. The Tosa drools profusely, especially when he gets excited. Bathing is allowed only when really necessary.

Health Problems:

The Tosa is generally healthy dog breed, but like all breeds, they can be prone to Bloat (the most common problem in this breed). The Tosa has a life expectancy of 10 to 12 years.

Weight / Height

The Tosa is a huge breed (the most significant out coming from all of the breeds from Japan), though its size differs depending on where it was bred. Japanese Tosas typically weigh 80 to 135 pounds, but Tosas carefully bred outside of Japan are usually larger, between 135 to 200 lbs. This kind of breed usually stands about 24. 5 to 32 inches tall.

Training:

Tosa very clever dog, trailing knowledge. She learns quickly and well obeys his master. Since this breed is characterized by huge size, it requires constant monitoring, so it can start only experienced breeders. Training for this breed, in principle, is not mandatory, but it is better to start as early as possible, so you do not have problems.

Activity:

Spacious, fenced yard is suitable for large Tosas. Still, this breed can live in an apartment if it exercises sufficiently. The Tosa loves long walks and jogging.
