BRACCO ITALIANO DOG BREED

Description:

This ancient breed originated in Italy and became extremely popular among the local aristocracy, who used Bracco Italians as gun dogs. The Bracco Italiano almost went extinct during the 20th century. Fortunately, an Italian breeder Ferdinando Delor de Ferrabonk restored this species. Hence, the Bracco Italiano is extremely rare outside his home country.

Characteristics:

The Bracco Italiano is a muscular breed, powerful in appearance. His long ears and droopy lips give him a distinctive look and solemn facial expression. He is also called the Italian Pointer. Comparable Breed: The English Pointer and Spinone Italiano.

Character:

Braccos are calm and faithful dogs, willing to please. This breed has a particularly close relationship with its family, it gets along well with older children, dogs and other pets. Do not leave the Bracco alone for long, as he thrives on human companionship. This breed is very intelligent, agile, and energetic. Although originally intended for hunting, the Bracco Italiano makes a wonderful pet. Despite their grace and kindness, Braccos are not intended for inexperienced breeders.

Coat / Care:

The coat is glossy, dense and short. Shedding is of medium intensity. In order to remove excess hair, the dog must be regularly cleaned with a firm brush. Bathe your pet only in case of urgent need. Long, pendulous ears also require frequent inspection and cleaning.

Health Problems:

The Bracco Italiano is generally healthy dog breed, but like all breeds, they can be prone to Bloating, Hip Dysplasia, Eye Problems, and Ear Infections. The Bracco Italiano has a life expectancy of 12 to 15 years.

Weight / Height

The male Bracco Italiano dog breed’s height is around 18 – 20 inches and weighs around 45 and 70 pounds. Female Bracco Italiano dogs can reach a size from 17 – 19 inches and weighs between 45 and 70 pounds.

Training:

The Bracco Italiano requires calm and even-tempered owner. He can master the training quickly but sometimes is quite stubborn. Early socialization and general training are mandatory. Do not use harsh or oppressive methods. Actually, education should be based on patience, consistency, firmness and fairness.

Activity:

They need a large volume of training for mental and physical stimulation. The Bracco Italiano is very keen of hunting, swimming and constant communication with his owner. Because of their amazing talent and personality, Braccos are used in Canistherapy.
