CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIEL

Description:

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is an unspeakably elegant and graceful dog, especially popular in the world of the aristocracy. The Cavalier King Charles is a well-balanced, miniature breed that shows affectionate behavior and loving nature. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was officially recognized by the American Kannel Club 1995.

Characteristics:

This toy dog is an excellent companion. Cavaliers are incredibly gentle, but at the same time, they have a sporty character that allows them to compete in agility trials and to be equally successful in hunting small game. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel loves to swim and is a search dog by nature. Comparable Breed: Bichon Frise and Cocker Spaniel.

Character:

A true extrovert, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is an energetic and sonorous dog. Cavalier enjoy spending time with the family and can socialize easily with other dogs. Their gentle appearance and kind personality are what makes Cavaliers so special.

Coat / Care:

The Cavalier is covered with silky hair, varying in length from the middle to long. Usually, the hair is not curly, but a small wave is not a big flaw. The dog’s tail, legs, feet, ears and chest are decorated with light feathering. To prevent the hair from tangling, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel needs weekly brushing and combing. The hair of the dog’s ears requires special attention.

Health Problems:

The most characteristic disease of this variety is a heart disease, which can develop at very young age. Therefore, it is extremely important to regularly visit a veterinarian. In addition, these spaniels have a tendency to allergies, deafness, cataracts and diabetes. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has a life expectancy of 12 to 15 years.

Weight / Height

The male Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dog breed’s height is around 12 – 13 inches and weighs around 15 and 18 pounds. Female dogs can reach a size from 12 – 13 inches and weighs between 13 and 18 pounds.

Training:

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a very intelligent dog that is willing to learn and please his master. He does well in obedience course, hunting and agility. Teaching methods must be gentle, respectful and rewarding.

Activity:

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is fairly active and athletic breed, and therefore it needs regular exercise. This may prevent health issues. Cavaliers can be kept in a city apartment, but the best environment is a house with a spacious yard where they can roam around.
