Entlebucher Mountain Dogs were traditionally used for grazing cattle by Alpine herdsmen. Nowadays, they are both wonderful companions and great guards. Representatives of this breed a rarity in the United States and Europe. In 2011, the Entlebucher Mountain Dog was officially recognized by the American Kennel Club.

The Entlebucher Mountain Dog is covered with a shiny, hard, dense and hair, short in length. This dog sheds moderately. Do not start this dog, if you live in a country with a warm or hot climate. In order to remove excess hair and minimize the hair loss, it is recommended to periodically clean the dog with a stiff bristle brush. If truly necessary, you can bathe your dog. It is highly important not to overfeed this breed since it is prone to obesity. Besides, cut the nails regularly and monitor the oral hygiene.
The Entlebucher Mountain Dog is generally healthy dog breed, but like all breeds, they’re prone to Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA), Cataracts and Canine Hip Dysplasia. The Entlebucher Mountain Dog has a life expectancy of 11 to 13 years.
The male Entlebucher Mountain Dog dog breeds height is around 17 – 21 inches and weighs around 55 and 66 pounds. Female Entlebucher Mountain Dog dogs can reach a size from 16 – 20 inches and weighs between 55 and 66 pounds.
The Entlebucher Mountain Dog is quite stubborn and therefore requires consistent training and an experienced owner. Early socialization and general obedience training are a necessity for this breed. Entlebuchers are very intelligent, and they always seek to earn the praise. Education should be based on firmness, fairness and consistency.
A dog of this breed is not suitable for apartment living. Hence, Entlebucher Mountain Dogs require a significant amount of physical activity and mental stimulation. These dogs are the perfect companion for jogging, hiking and all sorts of family activities. The best environment for the Entlebucher’s proper development is a wide, enclosed yard or a farm. This breed needs a job to do.
