Miniature Pinscher

Description

The Miniature Pinscher (Min Pin), which is often referred to as the “King of Toys”, was developed in Germany to hunting vermin, firstly rats. This breed was developed from the Dachshund, Italian Greyhound, and the shorthaired German Pinscher. The Miniature Pinscher was officially recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1925.

Characteristics

The Miniature Pinscher looks like a small Doberman Pinscher, he has keen expression and elegant bearing. Usually, Miniature Pinschers have erect ears and a short, docked tail. This cute dog breed is very friendly, playful and alert. Comparable Breed: The Chihuahua and Cairn Terrier.

Character

The Miniature Pinscher is a small, yet very courageous dog. He has a great sense of humor and furious energy. This dog breed is very curious and likes to explore new territory, it will even try to run away from home. Puppies need a proper socialization, as they may be afraid of strangers. Hence, if properly socialized, the Miniature Pinscher can find a common language with other pets and children. Mini Pins are lively animals who love to be in the limelight, they are agile and athletic.

Coat / Care

This breed is covered with a short, smooth coat. Miniature Pinschers come in a variety of colors, including red, black and rust, and chocolate and rust. These dogs are very low shedder, so grooming is rather easy. Hence, the Miniature Pinscher requires occasional brushing with a soft bristle brush. Frequent bathing is not recommended because it dries the skin.

Health Problems

The Miniature Pinscher is generally healthy, but he may be prone to Epilepsy, Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA), Hypothyroidism and Patellar Luxation (PL). The Min Pin has a life expectancy of 12 to 16 years.

Weight / Height

The male Miniature Pinscher dog breed’s height is around 10 – 12.5 inches and weighs around 8 and 10 pounds. Female Mini Pin dogs can reach a size from 10 – 12.5 inches and weighs between 8 and 10 pounds.

Training

Like many other miniature dog breeds, Miniature Pinschers show difficulty in training. Since he is inquisitive and quite stubborn, the Mini Pinscher needs a skilled trainer who will be able to impose the rules. Also, consistency in training is of key importance. Otherwise, your pet can become a real domestic tyrant.

Activity

The Miniature Pinscher is well suited for apartment living. However, this energetic little dog should get regular exercise, but nothing too demanding. Hence, regular hiking should be enough.
