TOY POODLE DOG BREED

Description:

The Toy Poodle is a sub-breed of Poodle that was bred in France to hunt waterfowl. It is believed that the Toy Poodle was developed by crossing two, now almost extinct species: The French Water Dog (Barbet) and a Hungarian Water Hound. Today, the Toy Poodle is not perceived as a hunting dog. Instead, he often acts as a partner and participant in a variety of shows, including circus performances.

Characteristics:

The Toy Poodle is a proud dog with a strong sense of self-worth. Despite the small size, this breed of dog is distinguished by its strong constitution, natural elegance, and a graceful gait. Toy Poodles are versatile, athletic and energetic. Also, these dogs are distinguished from other breeds by their webbed feet and hanging ears.

Character:

The Toy Poodle is affectionate, intelligent, loyal and persistent. This dog does not tolerate loneliness and boredom. If left alone for a long time, the Toy Poodle will behave rudely and bark incessantly. This breed gets along well with many different breeds and pets, and can easily find a common language with teens. Toy Poodles are excellent guards, they treat all strangers with suspicion and always warn their owners about the possible dangers. The Toy Poodle is usually cheerful and playful.

Coat / Care:

The most characteristic trait of the Toy Poodle is his hypoallergenic coat. The Poodle’s hair ranges from soft and wavy to the rough and shaggy. This dog requires regular cleaning and brushing (at least every two months). Particular attention should be given to the dog’s ears and claws (which must be periodically trimmed). It is also important to maintain good oral hygiene to avoid tooth problems.

Health Problems:

The Toy Poodle is generally healthy dog breed, but like all breeds, they can be prone to the displacement of the knee joint, infectious diseases of the ear, eye diseases and cardiovascular problems. The Toy Poodle has a life expectancy of 12 to 15 years.

Weight / Height

The male Toy Poodle dog breed’s height is around 6 – 10 inches and weighs around 6 and 9 pounds. Female Toy Poodle dogs can reach a size from 6 – 10 inches and weighs between 6 and 9 pounds.

Training:

Toy Poodles require early socialization and obedience training. These small Poodles are very clever which greatly facilitates the training process. Since this is a very sensitive breed, too harsh methodology is not recommended. As a matter of fact, education must be consistent, strict but fair. Make sure to reward your pet with something delicious for every success.

Activity:

The Toy Poodle can live both in the city and in the countryside. This breed is characterized by vigor and activity, and therefore it needs long walks on every day basis. Toy Poodles enjoy playing with the family in a spacious yard.
