WHOODLE DESIGNER DOG

Description:

The Whoodle is a hybrid dog breed, which was created by mixing the Irish Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier with a Standard Poodle. Hence, this is a designer dog, which is still a rarity. The Whoodle is not recognized by the AKC, as it is considered to be a hybrid breed (designer breed).

Characteristics:

The ideal Whoodle should have a strong constitution and a cheerful look. Also, Whoodles should be resilient and quite nimble. This designer dog also comes in three sizes: miniature, medium, or standard.

Character:

The Whoodle is very friendly, playful and good-natured. He gets along well with teenagers and small children within the family. In addition, this breed coexists peacefully with other dog breeds. Still, in dealing with other pets, problems may arise. The Whoodle gets extremely attached to his whole family and cannot stand being alone for long period of time. If left neglected, Whoodles will destroy everything around, and they may also bark incessantly. These dogs are suspicious of strangers and will warn the family in case of suspicious sounds.

Coat / Care:

The Whoodle’ coat is wavy, soft and silky. The most common coat colors are black, brown and white. The hair requires daily combing to prevent forming of tangles. At least twice a year, Whoodle should undergo professional trimming. In order to avoid infection, make sure to constantly clean the dog’s ears.

Health Problems:

The Whoodle is generally healthy dog breed, but like all breeds, they can be prone to Swelling, Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA), Canine Hip Dysplasia. Furthermore, this breed is prone to insect bites and sunburn. The Whoodle has a life expectancy of 12 to 15 years.

Weight / Height

The male Whoodle dog breed’s height is around 15 – 20 inches and weighs around 30 and 45 pounds. Female Whoodle dogs can reach a size from 12 – 17 inches and weighs between 20 and 40 pounds.

Training:

The Whoodle requires socialization and obedience training at very young age. Whoodles do not tolerate too harsh teaching methods. On the contrary, education needs to be based on strictness, fairness, consistency, and patience.

Activity:

The Whoodle can bear living in a city apartment, but he has to exercise both physically and mentally. Nonetheless, this breed of dog prefers to spend time in a spacious, enclosed yard. Whoodles love long walks on a leash and are happy to play all sorts of games with family members.
