Wolf Dog

Description:

A Wolfdog is a hybrid resulting from the hybridization of a domestic dog. Hybrid wolves and dogs are often called Wolf Dog Hybrid. Generally, this hybrid is obtained by crossing the Arctic wolf with a large wolf-like dog, for example, a Siberian Husky or Alaskan Malamute.

Characteristics:

The Wolf Dog is well-built, strong, muscular animal with long limbs and elongated “wolf” muzzle. These dogs are typically more shy around humans than that around dogs of other breeds. Due to the variability inherent to their hybridization, whether a wolf-dog cross should be considered more dangerous than a dog, depends on behavior specific to the individual alone rather than to wolfdogs as a group.

Character:

The Wolf Dog is not a suitable breed for timid or inexperienced dog breeders. Wolf Dogs are loyal, faithful and family oriented. They get along well with large breeds, provided that they grew up together. But in interaction with unfamiliar dogs and other pets, the Wolf Dog can behave aggressively. The Wolf Dog does not tolerate strangers and will do anything to protect his family and territory.

Coat / Care:

The color and coat type of certain Wolf Dog depends on the variety of the breed that is used in the crossing process. However, it is not unusual for the wolf to get thick, double coat. In order to look neat, the Wolf Dog needs regular combing and occasional bathing with a dry soap.

Health Problems:

The Wolf Dog is generally healthy dog breed, but like all breeds, they can be prone to hip dysplasia. The Wolf Dog has a life expectancy of 12 to 16 years.

Weight / Height:

The male Wolf Dog breed’s height is around 24 – 26 inches and weighs around 50 and 54 pounds. Female Wolf Dogs can reach a size from 24 – 25 inches and weighs between 44 and 50 pounds.

Training:

The Wolf Dog requires extensive and intense socialization at very young age. This is a type of dog that will not respond to harsh, disrespectful nor too strict methods. On the contrary, training should be consistent, firm yet fair.

Activity:

The Wolf-dog is extremely hardy and vigorous. He cannot bear living in an apartment. The best environment for Wolf Dogs is a spacious fenced enclosure in the suburban area.
