Characteristics

With their black eyes and fluffy white coat, Bichons look almost like a child’s toy, and they are often mistaken for white Poodles. Their arched necks give them a proud, confident look. The Bichon Frise is a lively and cheerful dog. Fun and relaxing, this breed is a trademark of the Bichon type. Comparable Breed: Poodle, Maltese.

Character

Bichons are extremely lovable. They do quite well with other dogs and pets, and they are great with children. These dogs are playful but not hyperactive, they simply need constant communication with the owner. The Bichon will bark to notify the family of possible danger which makes him an excellent guard. This is curious and active, noble and charming breed.

Coat / Care

The Bichon Frise is covered with two layers of coat. The outer layer is almost identical in length with a silky, soft undercoat. The coat is completely white in adult dogs, but puppies can be born in butter, apricot or gray shade. Bichons do not shed and are hypoallergenic breed. Nevertheless, the Bichon Frise requires meticulous care. Firstly, he needs regular cleaning, as his coat tends to tangle. Furthermore, at least once a month, professional grooming is recommended. They do not like to be alone for a long time, they need love and affection.

Health Problems

The Bichon Frise has typical health problems: skin diseases, allergies, ear infections and deafness. To avoid the teeth loss, oral hygiene is of great importance. The Bichon Frise has a life expectancy of 14 to 15 years.

Weight / Height

The male Bichon Frise dog breed’s height is around 9.5 – 11.5 inches and weighs around 12 and 18 pounds. Female Bichon Frise dogs can reach a size from 9.5 – 11.5 inches and weighs between 12 and 18 pounds.

Training

Even though the Bichon Frise is a very intelligent breed, as a rule, he can be quite indifferent to obedience rules. Males are much easier to train than female individuals. It is of great importance to be consistent, patient to conduct early socialization and obedience training. The Bichon Frise is happy to communicate with people and loves to perform tricks.

Activity

Bichons are active dogs but with proper exercise and play, they do well in the apartment. Since they need daily walks and active games, Bichons are not suitable for people who lead sedentary or inactive lifestyle. Don’t leave your Bichon alone for long period of time, since they are prone to destructive behavior. Amiable and affectionate, these dogs make wonderful family pets.
