PUG DOG BREED

Description:

It is believed that the Pug was developed in Asia in late 4th century. Allegedly, the first Pug brought to Europe came with the Dutch merchants. The Pug became very popular throughout Europe and is often known by different names in different countries. In France, it is called Carlin; and in Germany Mops.

Characteristics:

Pugs are very strong and hardy, yet delicate little dogs. Despite his small size, this breed is described as a lot of dog in a small space. Hence, this dog is a great, devoted guard. Pugs should not be timid nor aggressive, they should always be friendly and playful. Comparable Breed: French Bulldog, Pekingese.

Character:

This is a cheerful and positive lap dog that can get along with almost anyone, though they can be jealous of other pets. Socialization helps the Pug puppy become a calm and balanced dog. Hence, exposure to many different people and sounds at very young age is essential.

Coat / Care:

The Pug has a thin, short and soft coat, which should be smooth and glossy. He has a black muzzle and expressive eyes. The short coat does not require special grooming. However, the dog’s face must be constantly cleaned, as this breed is prone to excessive salivation. Also, make sure to periodically clean the skin folds to prevent skin dryness and itching. Bathe your Pug if truly necessary, in order not to wash away the natural, protective properties of the skin.

Training:

Sometimes, Pugs can show excessive willfulness. Still, they are very eager to please their loved ones. Training should be fun and versatile, to keep the dog interested in learning. This breed is considered to be one of the most difficult trainees, so the dog should begin training at an early age when information is assimilated best.

Activity:

Pugs are quite active dogs. However, city apartment is spacious enough for physical exertion that these dogs need. This breed has persistent problems with breathing and it gets tired easily. Therefore, the Pug is not able to exercise intensely. The Pug is prone to overeating, so he needs water at his disposal.
