Raw or cooked, which carrots are better for dogs?

Carrots are very well tolerated for the dog both raw and cooked. There are dogs who like to nibble raw carrots. They are allowed to do that again and again because it calms and cleans the teeth at the same time. If the food is refined with carrots, it is better to lightly steam the raw vegetables.

Carrots have a particularly positive effect on the digestive tract of the dog and are therefore the ideal food for sensitive animals. In these cases, the carrots should be crushed or pureed. The pectins which are contained act as a protective layer in the stomach and intestinal tract. Carrots have an antibacterial effect and can even help with diarrhea.

Dried pellets

For diarrhea and soft bowel movements, many dog owners advice dried carrot pellets. The vegetables are deprived of all water. These dry carrots come as pellets in the trade. Because it is a pure natural product with no preservatives, you can safely feed your dog dried carrots. However, let the pellets soak in lukewarm water for 15 minutes.

If the dog has diarrhea or severe gastrointestinal problems, then just cook a Moro’s carrot soup. For this, you need one kilogram of peeled and small-cut carrots. The soup was once made by Prof. dr. Ernst Moro used in pediatrics. Since then it has helped many people with bowel problems. Boil the carrots with enough water and then simmer for one and a half hours. In between, you may need to add water. At the end of the cooking time, puree it very finely. The finer the puree, the better. Then a teaspoon of salt is added. Let the soup cool down and now you can feed your dog Moro’s carrot soup.

The long cooking time produces a sugar molecule, an oligosaccharide. This attaches itself to the intestinal wall and prevents unwanted bacteria from settling in the intestinal wall. The protozoa are then simply eliminated. In this way, the carrot soup acts like a natural colon cleansing. For the soup to work as desired, give it to your dog half an hour before the main meal.

What you need:

A large cooking pot
A strainer
2 pounds of carrots, peeled and sliced
1 cup water
1 teaspoon salt

The first thing you need to do is peel all of the carrots and slice them. After slicing you need to heat the carrot in 1 cup of water in a cooking pot with medium heat and wait for it to boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for about 30 minutes until the carrot is tender. Then mash the carrot fully and add about 1 and a half cup of boiling water and bring it to boiling water again and then simmer for about 15 to 20 additional minutes. Put the strainer over something like a large bowl to get all of the carrot juice, harder you press, more juice you will get and then pour the mixture into it. About ¾ needs to be given to the patient every 30 minutes.

The amount depends on the size of your dog. For a medium-sized dog, you need about half a liter of soup, for smaller or larger animals, more or less.

In addition to the antibacterial effect carrots also have a prophylactic effect against worms. For this, you should give pureed carrots every day. The essential oils excrete worms or their larvae. If you want to protect your dog from these parasites in this natural way, you should occasionally have a feces sample examined by the veterinarian. This is the only way to safely rule out a worm infestation.
