CENTRAL ASIAN SHEPHERD DOG BREED

Description:

This ancient breed of working dog comes from the Central Asian republics, located on the territory of the former USSR. The Central Asian Shepherd Dog continues to be used to protect livestock from large predators such as wolves and bears. This breed of dog is very popular in England, Poland and Italy. However, because of the ban on their exports, Central Asians are rather uncommon in the United States.

Character:

Central Asian Shepherd Dogs are not suitable for indecisive, timid people or dog breeders who do not have enough experience. The Central Asian Shepherd Dog is confident, independent, courageous and hardworking. This dog approaches strangers with the utmost suspicion and is always ready to face any danger. Indeed, Central Asian Shepherd Dogs are excellent defender of home, family and territory. These quiet and faithful dogs do well with children, provided that they grew up in the same household. Otherwise, they can be quite intolerant. Also, this dog breed can bear living with other dog breed and small pets within the family.

Coat / Care:

The Central Asian Shepherd Dog has a double coat. There are two varieties of this breed: long-haired and short-haired. Long-haired Central Asian Shepherd Dog has a long and quite rough outer coat. The hair is much thicker and longer on the back of the hind legs, tail, ears and neck. In short-haired varieties, the outer layer is also quite rough, but much shorter in length. The undercoat is dense in both long-haired and short-haired Central Asians. In order to remove excess hair, it is recommended to periodically clean the dog with a stiff brush. Also, long-haired subspecies need a special comb. Bathing is recommended only in case of urgent need.

Health Problems:

The Central Asia Shepherd Dog is generally healthy dog breed, but like all breeds, they can be prone to hip dysplasia and bloat. The Central Asia Shepherd Dog has a life expectancy of 12 to 14 years.

Weight / Height

The male Central Asia Shepherd Dog breed’s height is around 27 – 32 inches and weighs around 121 and 176 pounds. Female Central Asia Shepherd Dogs can reach a size from 24 – 27 inches and weighs between 88 and 143 pounds. Male dogs are generally larger than females.

Training:

The Central Asian Shepherd Dog is not only used to protect flocks, he is also a family companion. For this reason, this dominant breed must undergo early and intense socialization, and it needs a very experienced owner. The Central Asian Shepherd Dog will not tolerate rough or oppressive treatment. In fact, education should be based on respect, firmness, fairness, patience and consistency.

Activity:

The Central Asian Shepherd Dog breed is not suitable for living in a city apartment or townhouse since it loves to bark at night. The best habitat for Central Asians is a countryside. They need plenty of space to roam around and a job to do, so a well-fenced yard is perfect for these enormous dogs.
