LHASAPOO DESIGNER DOG

Description:

The Lhasapoo is a hybrid created by crossing two breeds: The Lhasa Apso and a Poodle (usually a Miniature Poodle). Such dog breeds are called designer dogs and are usually very popular family companions. The Lhasapoo is not recognized by the AKC, as it is considered to be a hybrid breed (designer breed).

Characteristics:

Compact dog of medium size, with good body proportions, the Lhasapoo has a strong constitution and large, expressive eyes. This is a nimble, alert, and courageous dog.

Character:

The Lhasapoo is an affectionate, loving and loyal breed. These dogs are very family oriented and cannot bear being alone for a long time. Boredom and loneliness will lead Lhasapoos to destructive behavior and continuous barking. This breed gets along well with older children, who know how to handle a dog. Also, it coexists peacefully with other dogs and small pets, provided that they grew up in the same house. The Lhasapoo is suspicious of strangers and will warn the family of an intruder or unusual sounds.

Coat / Care:

The Lhasapoo’s coat can be versatile: It is either long and straight (of a Lhasa Apso) or soft and curly (of a Poodle). Depending on the type of the coat, Lhasapoos can be quite demanding when it comes to cleaning routine, and they may even need professional trimming. It is important to regularly check and clean the ears of your pet to prevent the development of infectious diseases.

Health Problems:

The Lhasapoo is generally healthy hybrid breed, but like all breeds, they can be prone to hip dysplasia, allergies to a flea bite, kidney diseases, progressive retinal atrophy, epilepsy and anemia. The Lhasapoo has a life expectancy of 10 to 15 years.

Weight / Height

The male Lhasapoo dog breed’s height is around 10 – 13 inches and weighs around 10 and 20 pounds. Female Lhasapoo dogs can reach a size from 9 – 13 inches and weighs between 10 and 20 pounds.

Training:

Dogs of this breed should undergo early socialization and general course of obedience. The Lhasapoo may be too noisy and not always obedient when it comes to cleanliness in the apartment. Nevertheless, do not use harsh or heavy-handed methods. On the contrary, education should be based on firmness, fairness, reward, patience and consistency.

Activity:

The Lhasapoo feels good in an apartment, provided that he spends enough time exercising. Lhasapoos are always willing to take part in all kinds of family activities, such as walking with the owner on a leash and playing in a well-fenced yard.
