Description:

The Maltipoo is a designer dog which was created by crossing The Maltese with Toy Poodle or Miniature Poodle. Originated in the United States, these dogs are wonderful companions, which is why they’re often used for Canistherapy. The Maltipoo is not recognized by the AKC, as it is considered to be a hybrid breed (designer breed).

Characteristics:

The Maltipoo is well-proportioned, athletic dog, which is always in a cheerful mood. Dogs of this breed are active, agile and very mobile. Temperament: Friendly, outgoing, calm, easygoing.

Character:

The Maltipoo is an affectionate, loyal and loving dog. He gets along well with older children who know how to behave around such small and delicate dogs. Also, Maltipoos get along well with different dog breeds, other pets and even cats. This is a cute and friendly pet who trusts everybody, that’s why he is not a good watchdog.

Coat / Care:

The Maltipoo’s coat can be long, straight, slightly wavy or curly. The coat comes in a variety of colors including cream, white and silver. Even though this breed is a low shedder, it needs daily brushing to keep the coat clean. Moreover, Maltipoos need professional trimming at least once a year. Bathe your dog only when absolutely necessary, make sure to use a mild shampoo.

Health Problems:

The Maltipoo most characteristic health concerns are patellar luxation, epilepsy, progressive retinal atrophy, skin diseases and eye problems. The Maltipoo has a life expectancy of 10 to 13 years.

Weight / Height:

The male Maltipoo dog breed’s height is around 8 – 14 inches and weighs around 5 and 20 pounds. Female Maltipoo dogs can reach a size from 8 – 14 inches and weighs between 5 and 20 pounds.

Training:

The Maltipoo can be quite stubborn. Still, this is a very intelligent dog, always willing to earn praise from his owner. Crude or heavy-handed methods are inefficient. Hence, education should be based on reward, firmness, fairness, patience and consistency.

Activity:

Maltipoos are perfect pets for living indoors. These dogs need constant contact with humans, so make sure not to neglect them. The Maltipoo gets real pleasure from walking on a leash with his owner and playing games in a well-fenced yard.
