Description:

The Weimaraner is an ancient German breed, athletic in its appearance. The Weimaraner is a gun dog, originally bred for hunting in the 19th century. Nowadays, Weimaraners are used in police work as rescue dogs. The Weimaraner was officially recognized by the American Kannel Club in 1943.

These qualities allow Weimaraners to achieve success in any field. This dog is friendly, attentive and always ready to be of service. The Weimaraner is very muscular and elegant dog, he is a wonderful companion and a fierce protector. Comparable Breed: Greyhound and Vizsla.

Character:

The Weimaraner is wise, affectionate and enthusiastic, but he can also be self-willed and stubborn. The Weimaraner is passionate, loyal and brave. He is a true family member, requiring constant attention from the man, otherwise, he gets lonely. This dog breed gets along well with other dogs but cannot tolerate cats.

Coat / Care:

Weimaraner have a fine, short coat with smooth hair. The coat can vary from mouse-grey to silver-grey or even blue-grey, giving Weimaraners a distinctive royal appearance. This breed is relatively easy to care for. It is necessary to occasionally comb your pet with a stiff brush. Bathing is not recommended, it is better to use a dry shampoo. Keep your dog’s mouth clean and check on the legs after exercise.

Health Problems:

The Weimaraner is generally a healthy breed but can suffer from hip dysplasia. He is also susceptible to bloating, so be sure to feed him twice a day in small portions. The Weimaraner dog has a life expectancy of 10 to 13 years.

Weight / Height:

The male Weimaraner dog breed’s height is around 25 – 27 inches and weighs around 70 and 90 pounds. Female Weimaraner dogs can reach a size from 23 – 25 inches and weighs between 55 and 75 pounds. Male dogs are generally larger than females.

Training:

The Weimaraner is physically durable and loves to learn, especially if he`s rewarded for correct execution of the task. This dog can be very suspicious so the too strict teacher may discourage him from training. The Weimaraner is able to show good results in nearly every discipline.

Activity:

Weimaraners need great physical exertion. They love to play ball and enjoy traveling, hiking and hunting. This dog should have plenty of space for energy consumption. If the Weimaraner`s energy is not pointed into the right direction, he can become destructive.
