BORZOI DOG BREED

Description:

The Borzoi, also called the Russian Wolfhound, is a member of the sighthound family. This is a breed of domestic dog, extremely fast and nimble. Borzois are excellent hunters, always relying on their keen eyesight. Exports of this breed to other countries was extremely rare. However, in the late 19^th century, the Borzoi established himself outside his native country. The Borzoi was officially recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1891.

Characteristics:

The Borzoi is a tall, slender dog with aristocratic appearance. As a matter of fact, this breed is considered to be the epitome of elegance and grace. Borzois simply exude calmness, restraint and confidence. These dogs are obedient and wonderful companions. Russian Wolfhounds show exceptional talent in hunting and lure coursing. Character:

The Borzoi is a proud, attentive and majestic dog. He is extremely loyal to his family, and he is friendly with familiar people. Borzois are restrained with strangers but never aggressive, they even bark very rarely. For this reason, these dogs cannot be used as guards. Russian Wolfhounds do not tolerate small children, cats or other small pets, but they quickly find a common language with other medium-sized or large-sized dogs. The Borzoi evolves rather slowly. Since this dog can become depressed and has a tendency to separation syndrome, make sure not to neglect him. The Russian Wolfhound is extremely intelligent, free-thinking and sensitive dog.

Coat / Care:

The Borzoi has truly unique and intricately painted coat. The coat is of medium length, silky and resistant to dirt and tangling. The undercoat is thick and tight to the body. The hair is much thicker and longer on the neck, tail and hind legs than on the rest of the body. Borzoi`s cover can be flat, slightly wavy or curly. Borzois come in virtually any color: white, gold, brown or gray with black markings. Shedding is very intense. Nevertheless, grooming is relatively simple. Regular cleaning with a stiff brush is enough. If necessary, you can use a dry shampoo to bathe your pet. It is important to trim the long hair on the paws in order to prevent sprains.

Health Problems:

The Borzoi is a fairly healthy breed, but there are prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy, bloating, and sensitivity to anesthesia. The Borzoi has a life expectancy of 9 to 14 years.

Training:

Like all hounds, the Borzoi requires early socialization and general training. This breed is very sensitive, so a firm, positive hand is recommended. They are intelligent and eager to learn but will not respond to harsh or oppressive treatment.

Activity:

The Borzoi requires a significant amount of training. If you are a fan of jogging, this dog is a perfect companion, of course, using a reliable leash. When indoors, the Borzoi behaves quite well, but if he is closed for a long time, he may become restless and aggressive. Borzois need a lot of space for running and training, so it is best to keep your dog in the house with a large yard. However, if you give this dog enough physical and mental stimulation, he can adapt to living in an apartment.
